Logitech has extended its SpaceNavigator uberknob input device to Mac users.
The controller, which looks like one of those big buttons movie villains used to push to launch a nuclear attack, is used in conjunction with a mouse to zoom, rotate and pan 3D objects and environments. It has become popular with graphics designers, architects and other visual pros, but so far only those with Windows-based machines.
Logitech is developing OS X versions of the drivers and application widgets that make the $59 device work. A beta version of the OS X driver is available now from Logitech subsidiary 3Dconnexion. The beta supports Google SketchUp 6.0 and Autodesk Maya, but numerous other applications will be in the holster by the time of the software's public release in March.
