Pet_kbpWhen Miwa Koizumi moved to New York four years ago, she began to see the garbage on the street look like friendly, sea creatures. Armed with a heat gun and soldering iron, she brings these visions to life in her PET bottle project, which is featured in the current issue of Surface magazine. It’s hard to believe that these pretty creatures were made out of something as simple as a plastic bottle!

“One day I was thinking that.... ages ago every human would hunt or forage for materials outside (animals are still living the same way). I decided to go outside looking for ideas and material to make my work. This is how my "PET" and "kite project" came out of my head.”

Koizumi’s “My Ritual: Wishing Factory” installation, another eco-friendly project, is currently on display at the Hungarian Cultural Center in NYC until April 13th.
