Belgian artist Wim Delvoye has been raising and tattooing pigs at his Art Farm in China for quite some time. Bearing designs ranging from Louis Viutton logos to Walt Disney characters, the live and dead versions of his inked subjects have been showcased worldwide.
Currently, the stuffed and skinned versions of Delvoye's pigs are on view at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris until May 12th.
"We experienced a plague in the region before winter and lost a couple of pigs. So they have only started again last week with new piglets. These should be ready for an auctioning May 9th at CGuardian in Beijing, although the house is thinking of maybe rescheduling and postponing it till November," writes Gianni Degryse from Wim Delvoye Studio.
Although obvious questions will be raised as to the morality of the project, Delvoye reminds critics that he's protecting the pigs by raising their value, and allowing them to grow in better living conditions.
The conceptual artist raised eyebrows back in 2000 when he revealed the first installment of his Cloacaproject -- literal shit machines that produce feces by digesting real food. These will make an appearance at the Xin Beijing Gallery starting May 12th.
