SmileOnMyMac has released a new version its typing shortcut utility TextExpander, which we wrote about last year. The recent update adds new features for organization by groups, sharing and syncing snippets via Apple's .Mac service.
TextExpander is a preference pane that allows you to save chunks of regularly used text and call it up with keyword shortcuts. For instance, if you always append a signature to your e-mail just save the signature, give it a shortcut (I use “yrs”) and whenever you type that shortcut TextExpander will inject the full text of your signature.
TextExpander 2.0 adds features that allow you to store snippets in groups and enable or disable each group on a per-applications basis.
For those who use snippets on multiple computers, TextExpander 2.0 offers synchronization via .Mac. It'd be nice if they expanded synchronization beyond .Mac, but if you happen to use it, you'll be happy to know that snippet files can be backed up and shared through .Mac folders.
TextExpander 2.0 costs $30 and can be downloaded from the company's website.
