It seems that the recent acquisition of Tomb Raider publisher Eidos has left Square Enix hungry for more.

"The combination of Eidos and Square Enix gives us a good platform from which to expand. In that process, we might decide to acquire another company," Square Enix president Yoichi Wada told the Financial Times.

"In the last five to 10 years, the Japanese games industry has become a closed environment, with no new people coming in, no new ideas, almost xenophobic. It is now slightly behind western counterparts," Wada added. "The lag with the US is very clear. The US games industry was not good in the past but it has now attracted people from the computer industry and from Hollywood, which has led to strong growth."

Wada (pictured above) makes no mention of which companies the Final Fantasy publisher might be eyeing as possible acquisitions, though his comments about the U.S. gaming industry and Square Enix's recent push to establish a foothold in Western markets may indicate an upcoming bid for a gaming firm based in The States.
