Before Burn Notice, actor Bruce Campbell played Ash, slayer of Deadites.

Everybody's favorite S-Mart employee will wield his boomstick on the iPhone in 2011. Backflip Studios said Thursday it is working with MGM to make an iPhone game based on the cult flick Army of Darkness.

The 1992 film, starring Bruce Campbell and directed by Sam Raimi, was the third movie in the Evil Dead trilogy and the first to step away from cabin-in-the-woods horror and delve into sword-and-sandal action.

The movie might not seem like a good fit for touchscreen platforms, but Backflip told Touch Arcade the game will rely heavily on castle-defense mechanics. Players will use their boomstick and chainsaw to protect the Necronomicon from hordes of nasty Deadites. Backflip promises that all of Campbell's best quotes will pop up in the game's audio.

The Evil Dead inspired an adventure game for the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum in 1984 and a handful of console games of varying quality in the oughts.
