Over one billion accounts have been created for virtual worlds, says a new report.

According to virtual-world strategy group KZero, nearly 350 million of those accounts were created in the last six months. 10- to 15-year-old gamers dominated the virtual world space, holding 468 million of these accounts in games like Club Penguin.

Adults 25 and up carry a piddling 35 million accounts in the kid-dominated field.

KZero notes that the forthcoming Lego Universe could be a potential player in this space, but the fact that the game requires a downloadable client could hobble its chances of widespread adoption.
