No matter how many times the hero's journey gets rebooted and remixed, it's still entertaining to watch. Case in point: this mashup of audio from The Dark Knight Rises trailer with footage from The Lion King.
In "The Lion King Rises" (above) we get a version of the 1994 Disney film with Zazu the bird acting out the part of Alfred, the majordomo of Simba/Bruce Wayne's life and rise to hero status (or, technically, re-rise in Batman's case). The monomyth megamix continues with lioness Nala as Selina Kyle/Catwoman (naturally) and Scar as Bane.
The rest plays out pretty much how you'd expect. (People have mixed Lion King footage with everything from Hamlet to Neo's story arc in The Matrix since they all tell a similar story.)
One snag here though: When you're looking at the The Lion King footage, it kind of sounds like those Gotham folks from Dark Knight Rises are chanting "Mufasa." (Don't you just shudder when you hear that name?) It seems odd they would be chanting it for Scar/Bane, but with trailer mashups you have to work with what you've got.
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20.
