You had us at "Iranian vampire Western."

That's the grabber for A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, an in-the-works film described by its would-be maker as a love story set in a place reminiscent of Sin City and inspired by David Lynch's Wild at Heart as well as Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

It's the kind of project that's sure to capture the attention of movie nerds, even amidst the flurry of filmmakers looking for funding on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo.

"Somehow, this film – when people read the script, when people even just hear about it – it's exciting," says A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour in her IndieGogo video pitch for the film. "The general response I get is, 'Wow, I want to see that movie.'"

Amirpour, who is looking to raise $90,000 for her film on IndieGoGo, plans to begin shooting in September in Taft, California. The general premise is that a Boy (a "Persian James Dean" type) still believes he can find love in the movie's fictional "Bad City," where – wouldn't ya know? – there is a Girl, who makes a habit out of following around the bad men of Bad City. The town is also populated by the Boss, the Prostitute, the Hustler, the gay Rockabilly, the Drug Addict and the Gambler, to be played by Marshall Manesh (aka Ranjit on How I Met Your Mother).

"I think it's an undeniably fun story, to have a love story with such extreme elements: Two completely ill-fated people in this really, really lawless place finding each other, and they have all the odds against them," Amirpour says. "Who doesn't love an underdog story?"

The film's IndieGoGo page also promises a soundtrack featuring tracks by A$A Soltan Rahmati, who you may have seen on Bravo's Shahs of Sunset.

The IndieGoGo campaign ends Aug. 18. Find out more on the A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night Facebook page and check out Amirpour's video below.
