I hate cats. I'm allowed to say that because I have cats. I love them, but they suck. They ruin everything, from your furniture to your skin to a good night's sleep. And when my two evil cats die, I will probably adopt two more. Because cat lovers are incorrigible. We see the errors of our ways, only to succumb time and time again to the self-deprecating act that is cat ownership. If you can commiserate with this statement, then boy do I ever have a book suggestion for you. Matthew Inman, the comedic genius behind the webcomic The Oatmeal, just released a new book called How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You.
How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You is a compilation of The Oatmeal's best cat comics plus 15 new ones and a pull-out poster. It is full of the lovable raunchy humor Inman is renowned for, ensuring this volume isn't an appropriate birthday present for your grandma. And that's just how we like it. After its debut on Tuesday, the book shot up to #1 best selling title on Amazon, turning "50 shades of ladyporn" into 50 shades of so-five-minutes-ago.
It's been previously shown that The Oatmeal fans are a relentless, generous, and loyal bunch. We helped raise over $211k for charity in response to the FunnyJunk lawsuit against Inman, and $1.2M for a new Tesla museum which we've discussed on Geekmom before. So really, the book's success comes as no surprise.
With a table of content composed of strangely compelling categories such as "Six Ways to Tell Your Cat Thinks It's a Mountain Lion," "Having a Baby vs. Having a Cat," and "Walking the Dog vs. Walking the Cat," you can bet you're in for a treat. It's official: the Ariane-o-meter claims it to be the funniest book to buy since I Am Better Than Your Kids. And if you don't like foul humor, then don't buy anything that registers on the Ariane-o-meter. My only complaint is that, as with all good things in life, the end comes all too soon.
