You're all invited to join me for a weekend of comics and Lego fun this Friday through Sunday, November 9 through 11, at the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention 2012. This year, they have added two new events on top of their annual comic convention: The Unreal Film Festival and Bricks & Heroes.

The guest of honor will be Tom Kenny, best known as the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants and Patchy the Pirate. He will be appearing November 9-10 at the convention. Friday night, White Station Middle School will be hosting an animation education presentation that will include Mr. Kenny, animators from the Memphis College of Arts, Chatterbox Audio Theater, and musician Winston Stewart.

Hometown wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler will also be at MCFC. Anyone who has followed Mr. Lawler's WWE career in the ring and at ringside knows not only is he an excellent entertainer, but he is also a talented artist. It'll be good to see The King up and about after his September heart attack.

In addition to the awesome animation education presentation at WSMS, the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention is also opening its doors for the Geek 101 Field Trip experience. This is a great way for students to sit in on an interactive presentation with actors, writers, artists, and robotics experts.

There will be around 50 other artist and writer guests, of which I'll be one of the latter. You can find me at 3 panels over the weekend, representing geek life and my various writing endeavors.

  • Friday, 5:00pm-6:00pm – Getting the Gizmo/Science Right
  • Saturday, 12:00pm-1:00pm – Getting Visual: Writing Scenes for Comics, Books & Movies
  • Saturday, 2:00pm-3:00pm – Q&A with Raymond Masters

Not enough geeky distractions? Well, that's just a drop in the bucket, my friends! There are contests, concerts, and costumes all weekend long. Plus, there's the official MCFC rave on Saturday night. Don't worry, I won't be out there trying to dance, but if that's your thing, then bring on the funk. If you're a gamer, you won't want to miss the game room and gaming guest of honor Lostgamers Productions. Looking for steampunk? Well, this con has you covered in spades with movies, books, and inventions.
