In this exclusive preview from DC Comics, written by Paul Levitz with art by Kevin Maguire, the impact of Damian (Robin) Wayne’s death is felt by a “sister” that Batman isn’t even aware exists.
World’s Finest stars Helena (Huntress) Wayne and Karen (Power Girl) Starr, refugees from an alternate reality that is close, but not quite the same, as the current DC Universe. Helena is the daughter of that Earth’s Batman and Catwoman, while Karen functioned as their Earth’s Supergirl. During a battle that saved their Earth, they were tossed through space/time into the current DC Universe and they’ve spent their time since trying to find a way home.
But they cannot avoid some heartbreaking situations, such as Helena discovering that Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce Wayne of the DC Earth, has been killed in battle. As the preview begins, she mourns her not-quite brother while wondering if she should ever reveal herself to this Earth’s Batman.
It reminded me of the 1970s stories that I loved featuring the regular Batman teaming up with his alternate Earth “daughter,” Helena Wayne of Earth-2 and especially of Bruce comforting his “daughter” after hearing of his counterpart’s death. This Helena Wayne isn’t quite the same character as the 1970s version but I would still love to see similar interaction with her not-quite father.
