Ever since McKayla Maroney was not impressed (and probably before), one of the most entertaining sports to watch during the Olympic Games has been the Individual Meme-ification. As soon as an athlete makes a strange face, a sportscaster makes a faux pas (or, in the case of Bob Costas, gets a pink eye), or a podium appearance gets weird, there's someone at a keyboard ready to turn it into a nugget of internet gold.
The 2014 Winter Games, which wrap up Sunday, have been no different. Since the events in Sochi, Russia began two weeks ago—with the opening ceremony's pageantry fail and anointing of the Russian Police Choir's "Get Lucky" cover—there have been more than a few top-notch memes, viral videos, and trending Twitter topics. This Games' Maroney? U.S. figure skater Ashley Wagner, whose reaction to her 63.10 score on her short program was perfect for Photoshopping into any disappointing scene.
But it didn't stop there. There was also "Shoshi Games," a Tumblr that placed Shoshanna from Girls in Olympic events as they happened, and (in true WIRED style) a Dogecoin fundraiser for the Jamaican bobsled team that brought in $30,000. And the list goes on and on. We found our dozen favorite—just expand the gallery above for the best experience.
