Batman v Superman: The … Rom-Com?

Batman Meets Superman: Dawn of Just Us isn't real—we just wish it was.

Who doesn't love movie trailers? We do---so much, in fact, that a few years back we did a thorough investigation of their history and execution. The thing is, as entertaining as they can be, and as crucial they are in building anticipation, they can also be a little formulaic. If you turn the sound off on the average trailer, things can be so generic that it's nearly impossible to tell what's going on. Someone's running somewhere. Someone else is glowering at someone. Maybe there's an old person rapping. Without the dialogue—or, more crucially, without accompanying music—the interpersonal dynamics get lost in an ever-accelerating parade of crosscuts. Are the people onscreen are about to kill each other...or are they falling in love?

That's a question we found ourselves asking during the many trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Obviously, these are two heroes going about the business of hero-ing, because capes, but whence the beef? Is Supes upset that Bats has that really cool cowl? Is Batman annoyed that Superman can fly while he has to drive a car that gets like 9 miles per gallon? Or maybe—just maybe—is it because after a meet cute and an earthshaking connection, Wonder Woman is the Act 2 conflict of the world's most expensive rom-com?

We're not the first people to consider this, but we also have a crack video team, so we decided to tweak the trailer to see exactly what that rom-com would look like. Behold: Batman Meets Superman: Dawn of Just Us!
